Why Uganda?

My husband and I lived in Uganda for about a year during our first year of marriage. We absolutely loved Uganda and we would like to move back to an area of need similar to the one that we were located in. We lived in a small city in the Busoga region. Our city was called Kaliro and we were involved with a church in small village school about twenty-five minutes away from where we were living.

There are several reasons that I chose to do my project on teaching Ugandans English:

  1. There is a need for people to learn English.
  2. Ugandans have very diverse language backgrounds even within living in close proximity of each other.
  3. I have a background of working with East Africans. boar hole
  4. We consistently saw how crucial it was for not only the students but also for the teachers to have a clear understanding of the English language.
  5. My husband taught music in a village school and it was clear how difficult it can be for the teachers to teach in English when the students can not fully speak the language. They have no choice but to revert back to the local language and do not grow in learning the English language.
