Gender pronouns tend to be difficult for Ugandans to learn depending on what region they are from. This lesson plan is directed towards teaching gender pronouns.
-The personal pronouns for a man are “he” and “him. For a woman they are “she” and “her.”
-Reflective pronouns are “himself” and “herself.”
-Possessive pronouns are “his” and “hers.”
Begin by having all of these words written on the board. Have a boy and a girl volunteer come to the front of the classroom. The teacher should have the students say what each student is wearing such as:
- He is wearing orange shoes.
- She is wearing earrings.
- He has a red backpack.
- She has green shoe laces.
- He has blonde hair.
The primary objective of this activity is to have the students practice using the correct gender pronouns in the sentences.
The next activity includes having the students practice using “he” and “she” through writing.
1.There is a worksheet that involves having the students read a short story and fill in the words in the blanks.
2. The blanks need to be filled with the correct pronouns that can be used for men and women.
The students primarily need repetition for using the words “he” and “she.” So all activities need to be directed towards the students identifying if using the word “he” is for a boy or a girl.
